This is a request to take part in the mail-art action for saving nesting area of black-headed gull (larus ridibundus) and 14 other species of water-fowl on Krievu Island, Riga, Latvia. Your collaboration will not be merely as an art fact, but as a help to the Riga inhabitants in order to save the micro-restricted area in the outskirts of city, nearby Bolderaja.
The nesting place where ornithologists last spring observed 1500 couples of black-headed gull is intended to be destroyed for business purposes. The island is planned to be graveled and used for creating a charcoal terminal. Only 20 nesting couples of birds are necessary to form a restricted area, but this is not a profitable project. City Authorities are going to make money at the expense of birds and people-friendly environment of the people. Let us not allow this to happen!
